Nagaland!

The land of festivals, 16 main indigenous tribes, colourful markets, unique ancient traditions, and verdant natural beauty, Nagaland promises to be nothing short of an adventure.

We plan to traverse the state, south to north, interacting with the many different tribes, learning and understanding their myriad traditions and customs, eating lots of yummy food, and soaking in the beauty of the state.

Nagaland is also home to many sites of fighting from World War II, deeply intertwined with the history of the state, and in the three weeks we spend in the state we hope to meet a few surviving veterans of the great war. The capital of Kohima built across several ridges will be our first stop and after taking in its some local flavour we plan to visit the nearby villages of Kisama as well as hike into the stunning Dzukou valley! From there we head to the village of Phusachodu where we look forward to spending a few days exploring rural Nagaland. Travelling northwards we travel through Wokha and Mokokchung before making the grueling journey to Mon, at the border of India and Burma where we meet the tattooed headhunters of Nagaland which was our inspiration to travel here in the first place!
